Statistics deals with creating, developing and applying scientific methods on collection, presentation, analysis and interpretation of data. Statisticians determine what information is reliable and which predictions can be trusted.
This three-year undergraduate course leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science (BSc) in the M stream, which encompasses programmes/ majors within the disciplines of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. Possible major subject combinations include any two of the following:
NSC degree pass with Maths Level 5 (60%), English and Life Orientation Level 4 (50%) and either Agricultural Science or Life Sciences or Physical Science Level 4 (50%)

CASSE is an Alternative Access and Academic Support Programme that caters for prospective students whose academic potential was not realised due to a disadvantaged educational background.

All first-time South African applicants to UKZN for entry into degree/ diploma study (Grade 12s and undergraduate transfer students from other institutions) must apply via the Central Applications Office (CAO).
A one year specialist programme leading to an Honours degree. Applicants must have a relevant 3-year or equivalent qualification to be considered for Honours. Spaces are very limited and a careful selection process is followed.
A Master of Science programme is offered, whereby students engage in research under the supervision of an academic staff member. Entrance is decided by the track record of the student and the availability of a suitable supervisor. This degree takes a minimum of one year.
A Doctor of Philosophy programme is offered where students engage in new and original research supervised by academic members of staff. This is typically two to four years of study and normally follows on from a Master of Science Degree.

Teachers4DataAnalytics was conceptualized by Prof Delia North (Statistician, UKZN), as a key project to create awareness amongst high school learners of the job opportunities that exist for those that study Data Analytics (Data Science, Statistics) at tertiary level. The project aims to advocate for teachers to appreciate the value of sound statistical reasoning, through fun activities and inspirational talks.
