Prof Bimal Sinha, Internationally acclaimed Statistician, visits UKZN

Prof Bimal Sinha, the Founder of the Statistics Graduate Program at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, visited UKZN from 21 to 24 July, 2019.

Prof Bimal Sinha, the Founder of the Statistics Graduate Program at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, visited UKZN from 21 to 24 July, 2019.

Professor Sinha's research activities span topics in theoretical and applied statistics and he has co-edited several volumes, and co-authored four books. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and an elected member of the International Statistical Institute.

Professor Sinha has served on the editorial board of several national and international statistics journals, and has mentored over 30 PhD students.

The object of Prof Sinha’s visit to the Statistics sector of UKZN was to motivate staff, particularly the young staff and to meet with post graduate students. He presented a seminar on both Westville and PmB campuses, and met with individual statistics staff members and post graduate students
