Keshlan Govinder
 
Kesh Govinder is a Professor of Applied Mathematics. He started off at the University of Natal as a lecturer in July 1996. Since then he has progressed up the ranks to Senior Lecturer (2000), Associate Professor (2004 - UKZN) and finally Professor (2008). He has been a very active member of the University committee sitting on and chairing a variety of committees over the years. Most recently he has been a member of Council, Finance committee, Remuneration committee, Senate and the Institutional Forum. He was convener of the ad hoc Senate Task Team analysing Research Productivity at UKZN. In addition he played an active role in the union NTEU.

While active within the University, Kesh also engages in a productive research programme. His research interests lie in the field of Differential Equations. He looks both at the analysis of equations (symmetry methods, singularity analysis and dynamical systems analysis) as well as applications in General Relativity (Cosmology and Astrophysics), Financial Mathematics (PDEs) and Mathematical Biology (Epidemiology and Cancer modelling)

He has published over 80 articles in internationally recognised journals and been involved in a similar number of local and international conference presentations as well organising a number of conferences. He has graduated 24 MSc and PhD students and is currently involved in the supervision of 18 postgraduate students. He is a regular reviewer for the NRF and has continuously attracted funding.
