Anne Marie K. Nzioki    Research Topic: Spatial Modeling of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

Understanding geographical variation of HIV and its determinants is important in formulating policies and interventions to combat it. This study has two broad aspects, one that deals with the spatial variation of HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) while the second aspect deals with MTCT. The first component involves developing models to analyse jointly the spatial variation of HIV and STIs. The second component investigates the factors that lead to high viral load and low CD4+ count among new born babies that acquire HIV through mother to child transmission in KwaZulu-Natal region South Africa.

The results from this study will be useful in developing informed policies that are targeted to geographical regions and also to reduce MTCT
